10 Day Camping in Namibia Adventure

OverviewHighlightsCamping ExperienceActivities & MealsGood to Know

A 10-day camping adventure through Namibia

This Namibia camping adventure brings together wildlife, culture, coast and desert in ten memorable days. The guided route starts and ends in Windhoek. Along the way, you visit Okonjima, cross Etosha National Park, explore Damaraland, relax in Swakopmund and finish among the dunes of Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert.

Camping keeps you close to the landscapes you have travelled to see. Evenings unfold beneath wide skies, while a knowledgeable guide manages the route and brings each destination to life. Most nights are spent at established campsites. In addition, two accommodated nights in Swakopmund offer a comfortable break in the middle of the safari.

The journey suits adventurous and budget-conscious travellers who enjoy active days, shared experiences and the simplicity of outdoor living.

Highlights of camping in Namibia

  • Join a guided conservation experience at Okonjima.
  • Travel across Etosha and look for wildlife around its famous waterholes.
  • Visit a Himba community experience near Kamanjab.
  • Cross the Grootberg landscapes and explore ancient rock art near Twyfelfontein.
  • Watch for signs of desert-adapted elephants in Damaraland.
  • Spend two nights in Swakopmund with time for optional coastal adventures.
  • See the Walvis Bay lagoon and cross the Gaub and Kuiseb landscapes.
  • Experience sunrise among the dunes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei.
  • Walk into the narrow passage of Sesriem Canyon.

No two departures are exactly the same. Weather, wildlife movement and road conditions shape each day. However, the guide keeps the journey flowing and makes sensible adjustments when necessary.

What to expect on this guided camping safari

You travel in a custom-built safari vehicle without air-conditioning. Namibia’s distances are part of the adventure, so expect warm afternoons, cool mornings and changing road surfaces. Regular comfort and photo stops break up the longer drives.

The tour includes an English-speaking guide, camping equipment and established campsite stays. Bring your own sleeping bag and be ready to take part in simple camp routines. This shared approach creates an easy-going group atmosphere and keeps the journey affordable.

Most days include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Swakopmund is different: breakfast and accommodation are included, while you choose your own lunches and dinners. This gives you freedom to explore the town’s cafés and restaurants.

Who will enjoy this tour?

This Namibia camping adventure is ideal for solo travellers, couples and friends who enjoy the outdoors. A reasonable level of mobility helps with campsite access, short walks and uneven terrain. If you want to compare outdoor stays, visit our guide to Namibia private camps.

Wildlife, culture and desert experiences

Included experiences range from guided conservation activities to game drives, cultural visits and a Sossusvlei excursion. Etosha offers the chance to watch wildlife at waterholes, while Damaraland adds geology, rock art and vast dry-country scenery.

Your free time in Swakopmund opens the door to optional adventures. Consider a half-day Sandwich Harbour tour, a Welwitschia and Moon Landscape experience, a Swakopmund city tour, quad biking, sandboarding or a marine excursion. Optional activities depend on availability, weather and operating requirements.

Meals are prepared for the group on camping days. Please tell us about allergies or dietary requirements before booking so that we can confirm what can be accommodated. Drinks, snacks and meals not shown in the schedule are for your own account.

Plan your 10-day Namibia camping adventure

  • Duration: 10 days and 9 nights.
  • Start and finish: Windhoek, Namibia.
  • Travel style: Guided group camping with two accommodated nights in Swakopmund.
  • Vehicle: Custom-built safari vehicle without air-conditioning.
  • Best for: Adventurous, social and budget-conscious travellers.
  • Bring: A sleeping bag, practical shoes, sun protection, warm layers, a reusable water bottle and a small day bag.
  • Included meals: As listed in the daily schedule.

Pack lightly because luggage space in safari vehicles is limited. A soft-sided bag is usually more practical than a rigid suitcase. You should also arrange comprehensive travel insurance before departure. Read our essential Namibia travel tips for more preparation advice.
