Hoada Campsite & Tented Camp offers a relaxed Damaraland stay among granite boulders and mopane trees. Choose a campsite for your own equipment or a permanent tent with beds already made up. The setting suits self-drive travellers looking for privacy, simple outdoor living and time to enjoy north-western Namibia’s landscapes.
Hoada in the conservancy
Hoada means “everybody” in Damara-Nama. The camp lies in the ≠Khoadi-//Hôas Conservancy, where tourism helps support community employment and conservation. Local staff welcome travellers into a place designed around its rocky surroundings. Combine your stay with other Damaraland and Kaokoland accommodation for a wider journey through the region.
Campsites and permanent tents
Individual campsites provide space for tents or vehicles with rooftop tents, with a maximum of eight guests per site. Each has private ablutions with a shower, wash basin and flushing toilet. A kitchen area, running water and braai facilities make self-catering straightforward. Sites are positioned to provide room and privacy between neighbouring groups.
The tariff also lists larger group sites for up to twelve or fourteen people, charged per site rather than per person. Four permanent tents each sleep two and provide single beds, bedding, bedside lamps and towels. These offer a convenient alternative when you would like the camping atmosphere without putting up your own tent. Select the correct option when requesting a quote.
Outdoor living at Hoada
A splash pool sits among the boulders, with a nearby deck and chairs for relaxing during the warmer hours. The sundowner deck and bar offer another place to pause and enjoy the surroundings. Campsite facilities are deliberately simple, with an emphasis on outdoor life and a light environmental footprint.
The braai fire also helps heat water for your shower. Bring your supplies for self-catering, or arrange braai packs in advance. Wood is available, and crockery and cutlery can be hired subject to a refundable deposit. The tented-camp tariff offers two options: a basic stay and a package adding an early-bird snack, braai pack and one bag of wood.
Culture and conservancy outings
A guided Damara cultural walk introduces visitors to local traditions and knowledge. The published programme runs on weekday mornings. The surrounding boulders and open landscapes also create an enjoyable setting for quiet afternoons, sunset viewing and evenings around the campfire.
Elephant excursions and rhino tracking are listed as optional activities, subject to availability. Rhino tracking requires a two-night stay, while activities generally require at least two participants. Arrange important outings ahead of time and confirm departure details with reception. Nearby Grootberg Lodge offers another conservancy base for a longer itinerary.
Getting to Hoada Campsite
Access is via the C40 gravel road, around 75 kilometres west of Kamanjab and 25 kilometres from Grootberg Lodge. The supplier advises a 4×4, although a high-clearance two-wheel-drive vehicle can reach the camp. Allow sufficient time for the gravel route and carry the supplies needed for your chosen style of stay.
