4 Day Skeleton Coast Fly-in Safari
The 4 Day Skeleton Coast Fly-in Safari combines scenic flying with ground exploration in some of Namibia’s most remote landscapes. First, meet at Eros Airport in Windhoek, follow the Atlantic coastline north and finish beside the Kunene River before flying back to the capital. The journey lasts four days and three nights.
This is a landscape-led safari: shipwrecks, dunes, dry valleys and the meeting of desert and ocean are the main attractions. Meanwhile, wildlife adds another dimension, but sightings are a bonus. Along the way, light-aircraft flights link the different areas, while Land Rover outings bring you closer to the geology, plants and history.
From Conception Bay to the Kunene
Day one begins at 10:00 with a flight towards Conception Bay. From above, view the Kuiseb Canyon, red dunes and Eduard Bohlen shipwreck from the air. After refuelling in Swakopmund, continue north past Cape Cross. Next, a beach picnic and the striking Ugab formations lead into your first night at Kuidas camp in the Huab Valley.
On day two, explore the Huab surroundings by Land Rover, including colourful rock formations and desert plants. After lunch, fly towards Terrace Bay for coastal exploration, roaring dunes and pebble beaches. Afterwards, your next overnight stop is Leylandsdrift camp in the Hoarusib Valley.
Day three combines the Hoarusib Valley with a visit to a Himba settlement, subject to local arrangements. Desert-adapted elephants are sometimes encountered. Then continue north by aircraft, then travel through the Hartmann Valley’s mountains and dunes to Kunene River camp. Finally, day four includes a morning boat outing and lunch before the return flight to Windhoek.
Three nights in remote tented camps
Stay at Kuidas, Leylandsdrift and Kunene River camps. Here, you stay in the operator’s private tented bases, rather than large hotels. Tents have bedding and towels, with en-suite bucket showers and flush toilets or portable toilets. The experience suits travellers who enjoy remote surroundings and practical camp comfort.
Meals and drinks are supplied, including soft drinks, juices, beer and wine. Therefore, let us know about dietary needs before confirmation. In addition, basic laundry is available, and batteries can be charged overnight; bring your own compatible charger and enough camera power for the day.
For context on the wider region, browse our Damaraland and Kaokoland guide. The daily schedule below identifies each overnight camp and the meals included on the travelling days.
Planning a Skeleton Coast flying safari
Departures operate throughout the year, subject to resources and availability. The operator normally confirms groups of two to eight guests. However, the rate table shows passenger allocations of one to four per aircraft; a one-passenger aircraft rate does not guarantee a solo departure. For this reason, ask us to confirm the arrangement for your party.
Luggage is limited to 10kg per person in a soft, flexible bag, with approximately 2kg of camera equipment additional. Hard cases, wheeled bags and rigid-sided luggage are unsuitable. For comfort, pack layers, a warm windproof jacket, comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sun protection.
Fog, weather and operational requirements may change the route or sequence. Therefore, avoid a tight onward connection after the late-afternoon return. Also, advise us of mobility concerns and any requirements relevant to light-aircraft travel so suitability can be checked before booking.
Arrange your 4 Day Skeleton Coast Fly-in Safari
Prices are per person for the complete safari, not per night. In particular, the lowest starting price assumes four passengers sharing an aircraft. Indicative N$ conversions and their exact validity dates appear in the rates section; final pricing depends on your dates, party size and the confirmed quotation.
Families are welcome, but the supplier does not offer discounted child rates. A 25% non-refundable deposit normally confirms a booking, with the balance due 45 days before departure. However, late bookings require full payment unless agreed otherwise. Confirm the applicable cancellation terms in writing, as the supplier’s published pages contain differing wording.
