Damara Mopane Lodge near Khorixas
Damara Mopane Lodge is located about 20 kilometres east of Khorixas on the C39 in Damaraland. The lodge is a practical stop between Etosha, the Skeleton Coast and the rock-art sites around Twyfelfontein.
Sixty chalets are arranged in a broad semicircle around the central swimming pool. Pathways connect the guest rooms with the restaurant and shared facilities, while small vegetable gardens beside the chalets give the property its distinctive layout.
The surrounding mopane woodland is quiet and open. A hilltop viewing platform provides a place to watch the evening light over Damaraland, and marked walking routes allow guests to explore the immediate area at their own pace.

Damara Mopane Lodge has 60 twin chalets, including interleading options for families and two wheelchair-friendly interleading rooms. The arrangement offers privacy while keeping guests within easy reach of the central lodge areas.
Damaraland twin chalets
Each chalet includes air conditioning and heating, an en-suite shower bathroom, safe, veranda, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer and umbrella. The small garden outside each room is part of the lodge’s informal, village-like design.
Family accommodation at Damara Mopane Lodge
Five sets of interleading twin rooms can accommodate two adults and two children or up to four adults. Each room has its own bathroom. Guests requiring step-free access should request the wheelchair-friendly interleading rooms when enquiring.

The central area includes a restaurant, bar, swimming pool, reception and curio shop. Secure parking, mobile connectivity and 24-hour security are available. Wi-Fi is provided around reception, and laundry can be arranged at an additional charge.
Room bookings are normally offered on a bed-and-breakfast basis. Breakfast is generally served between 07:00 and 09:00. Lunch, dinner and packed lunches can be purchased separately, with current dining arrangements confirmed during the stay.

Damara Mopane Lodge activities and Twyfelfontein excursions
Guided outings introduce guests to Damaraland’s wildlife, geology and cultural sites. The full-day Damara Elephant Explorer may include time searching for desert-adapted elephants as well as visits to Twyfelfontein, the Petrified Forest, Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipes or a local cultural site. The exact route depends on conditions and operating schedules.
Walks from this Damaraland lodge
Short guided birding walks are offered in the cooler morning or afternoon hours. Guests can also join a sundowner walk to the hilltop viewpoint or follow marked hiking routes independently. The Mountain Trail is the more demanding option, while the Valley Trail is gentler.
Some full-day wildlife activities are not suitable for children under 12. Activities should be reserved before arrival where possible.
Planning a Damara Mopane Lodge stay
The lodge is accessible by standard vehicle via the C39, although travellers should allow extra time for gravel-road conditions. Khorixas is the nearest service centre, and secure parking is available at the property.
Children are welcome. Children up to five years generally stay free, and children aged six to 13 usually receive a reduced sharing rate. The relevant room configuration and activity restrictions should be confirmed before booking.
