Morning: Living Dunes Experience
Your day begins in the coastal dune belt near Swakopmund. An expert guide follows tracks and subtle movements in the sand to find desert specialists. Possible sightings include Palmato geckos, sand-diving lizards, toktokkie beetles, sidewinder snakes and chameleons.
As you explore, learn how these animals use fog, burrows and clever behaviour to survive. Because wildlife moves naturally, sightings vary. Even so, reading the tracks and understanding the ecosystem are central parts of the experience.
Lunch Break in Swakopmund
At midday, return to Swakopmund for a break and a self-funded lunch. This gives you time to relax before the second half of the Sand and Rock Combo.
Afternoon: Moon Landscape and Welwitschia
Next, travel east into the rugged Moon Landscape. The Swakop River and millions of years of erosion shaped these pale valleys and ridges. Your guide explains the geology while you enjoy broad viewpoints and strong photographic contrasts.
You will also see Welwitschia mirabilis, an unusual plant found in the Namib Desert. Some specimens live for more than a thousand years. In addition, you may spot springbok, ostriches and smaller desert creatures along the route.
