Shametu River Lodge near Popa Falls

Shametu River Lodge overlooks the Kavango River near Divundu, approximately six kilometres from town. Its elevated riverfront setting gives guests wide views towards the Popa Falls rapids, while Bwabwata National Park’s Mahango and Buffalo core areas are within convenient touring distance.

The lodge combines river chalets, tented accommodation, simpler room options and campsites. This range makes it useful for fly-in guests, self-drive couples, families and campers following a north-eastern Namibia route. The atmosphere is informal and closely connected to the river, with decks, lawns and shaded seating for quiet time between excursions.

Shametu River Lodge chalets and tented rooms

Luxury chalets provide en-suite comfort near the river. Tented chalets stand on raised platforms and combine canvas walls with proper beds, mosquito nets, a sitting area and a private deck. Tea and coffee facilities are available according to room category. The tented rooms are especially appealing to travellers who want a safari atmosphere without giving up a private bathroom.

Views and exact configurations vary, so specify whether you need double, twin or family-friendly Popa Falls accommodation. The river setting is naturally active: birds call early, insects are part of the environment and hippos may be heard after dark. Guests should follow lodge safety guidance at all times.

Divundu river lodge campsites

Shametu’s campsites offer privacy together with useful self-catering facilities. Sites generally include their own ablution area and kitchenette, as well as electricity and running water. This arrangement gives campers more independence than a large shared campground while keeping the restaurant, pool and activity desk within reach.

Bring normal camping equipment, food-storage containers and the correct electrical adaptor. Water and power should be used responsibly. Because this is an open Kavango River lodge environment, never approach wildlife or walk close to the river after dark without guidance. Confirm site dimensions and availability if travelling with a large vehicle or trailer.

Activities from Shametu River Lodge

River activities include boat trips to view the Popa Falls rapids, sundowner cruises, fishing and guided excursions in stable fibreglass mokoros. On land, guests can join game drives into nearby Bwabwata areas, take a short village walk or book a relaxing spa treatment. Elephant, buffalo, antelope, hippo, crocodile and many bird species occur in the region, although sightings are never guaranteed.

Water levels and weather influence river excursions, while park conditions affect drives. Reserve preferred activities early and ask about minimum ages. The Kavango Zambezi conservation organisation offers useful background on the wider connected landscape.

Planning a Popa Falls accommodation stay

The main lodge provides a restaurant, bar, river deck and swimming pool. Meals are generally served in the dining area or on the terrace when conditions allow. Share allergies and dietary preferences before arrival. Wi-Fi may be available in communal areas, but the connection should not be treated as guaranteed for important work.

Two nights allow time for both a river outing and a game drive, while a longer stay suits slower exploration. Pack insect repellent, sun protection, binoculars and a light jacket for early departures. Travel 2 Namibia can confirm the most suitable room or campsite, current meal basis and activity schedule, then position Shametu River Lodge sensibly within your broader itinerary.
