Onguma Forest Camp near Etosha

Onguma Forest Camp is a relaxed safari lodge on the eastern side of Etosha National Park. The camp sits among mature trees beside the dry Omuramba Owambo riverbed. It is a practical choice for travellers who want a quiet bush setting with convenient access to Etosha.

Thatched buildings, shaded paths and a viewing deck give the lodge a traditional safari atmosphere. Meanwhile, the waterhole in front of the main area brings the landscape close. The camp is mostly fenced, although adults should supervise children whenever they are outside.

The camp was previously known as Onguma Etosha Aoba, so maps and travel documents may still use that name. Onguma Nature Reserve borders Etosha on the eastern side.

Onguma accommodation and bungalow choices

The lodge has 11 thatched bungalows. Guests can choose from Heritage Bungalows, Bush Suites, Explorer Bungalows and a secluded Honeymoon Bungalow. Several room types can accommodate an extra child, so we will match the room to your group when we prepare a quotation.

Every bungalow includes an en-suite shower, air conditioning, mosquito net, document safe, minibar and tea-and-coffee facilities. In addition, a private terrace provides a comfortable place to sit among the trees. The Honeymoon Bungalow also has a private outdoor bathroom.

The four Heritage Bungalows are twin-bedded, while three Bush Suites have optional day beds. Three Explorer Bungalows provide another twin-bedded category. The single Honeymoon Bungalow is placed more privately and includes an outdoor shower and freestanding bath in addition to its indoor facilities.

Facilities at this Etosha safari lodge

The central lodge area includes a restaurant, bar, lounge, small safari shop and complimentary Wi-Fi. A swimming pool offers a welcome break after a warm day. The dining veranda and elevated viewing deck overlook the waterhole, so guests can watch for wildlife without leaving camp.

Dinner and breakfast are commonly included, although the exact meal plan depends on the rate booked. Please tell us about dietary needs in advance because the lodge is in a remote reserve.

A wine cellar complements the dining area, and private dinners under the stars can sometimes be arranged for small groups whose package includes dinner. Early meals may be requested around safari schedules.

Safari activities from Onguma Forest Camp

Activities may include guided Etosha game drives, drives on Onguma Nature Reserve, bush walks, sundowner outings and time at the photographic hide. Private game drives can also be requested, subject to availability. Activity times and age limits vary, so early booking is helpful.

Guests may also explore Etosha in their own vehicle. We can help arrange a stay that balances guided activities with independent travel.

Children can join a Young Explorers Walk that focuses on smaller aspects of the bush, including tracks, insects, trees and birds. Walking safaris have a higher minimum age than vehicle-based activities. The photographic hide also has an age restriction for safety reasons.

Planning your Onguma Forest Camp stay

Children are welcome, but open-vehicle game drives usually have a minimum age. Younger children may be able to join a private vehicle when arranged in advance. Current child rates, conservation levies and activity rules should be confirmed when booking.

For most itineraries, two nights allow time for the lodge and an Etosha safari. Contact Travel 2 Namibia for current availability, room recommendations and a tailored Namibia itinerary.

Children under three generally stay free, and ages three to eleven may receive a reduced sharing rate. Children under seven cannot join scheduled open-vehicle drives; a private vehicle may offer an alternative when available. Conservation levies are normally charged separately and should be included when comparing quotations.
