Ongava Lodge: a hilltop lodge near Etosha

Ongava Lodge occupies a rocky ridge in the dolomite hills of Ongava Game Reserve, along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park. Its elevated position provides broad views over the reserve and a waterhole that regularly attracts wildlife. The location works well for travellers who want guided private-reserve experiences alongside time in Etosha.

The lodge is built from rock and thatch, with rooms and shared spaces arranged around the natural slope. It accommodates couples, families and small groups in a comfortable safari setting. Paths and changes in level are part of the hilltop design, so guests with mobility concerns should request specific access advice.

Rock-and-thatch chalets at Ongava Lodge

There are 14 air-conditioned en-suite chalets, including a family unit. Standard chalets have twin beds that can be converted to a king when requested in advance. The family chalet has two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and entrance, connected by a hallway.

Rooms include mosquito nets, a safe, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer and a private wooden viewing deck. Bathrooms have a separate toilet, shower, double vanities and, in most units, an outdoor shower. A limited number of extra beds may be used for children, but exact occupancy should be confirmed for the selected room.

Facilities at this Ongava Game Reserve lodge

Two central viewing decks face the waterhole and provide a natural meeting place for meals, sundowners and wildlife watching. The lodge also has a swimming pool, bar, dining area and viewing and photography hide. These spaces make it possible to observe the reserve without always joining a vehicle activity.

Dining and downtime at Ongava accommodation

Meal and drink inclusions depend on whether the reservation is full board or fully inclusive. Fully inclusive rates generally add scheduled activities, local drinks and laundry, while premium beverages remain excluded. Confirm the exact terms for your travel dates rather than relying on an older rate description.

Safari activities from Ongava Lodge

Guests can join game drives on Ongava, excursions into Etosha, night drives and birding outings. Guided walks may include opportunities to approach big game under strict safety controls. The Discovery Center and photographic hide provide alternatives for travellers interested in research, ecology or patient observation.

Private activities are available on request and can be useful for photographers or families needing a more flexible pace. Walks and shared drives have age and mobility requirements. Guides follow current conditions, and wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.

Planning a stay at Ongava Lodge

A typical stay of two or three nights allows time for both Etosha and reserve activities. Check-in is normally from 14:00 and check-out by 10:00, but transfers and activities should be coordinated before arrival. Pack neutral clothing, sun protection and a warm layer for open-vehicle drives.
