Mushara Lodge: accommodation near eastern Etosha

Mushara Lodge lies about eight kilometres from the Von Lindequist Gate on the eastern boundary of Etosha National Park. It is the original property in the Mushara Collection and provides a comfortable base for exploring the Namutoni side of the park. Mature trees, lawns and thatched buildings create a restful contrast to a day on Etosha’s open plains.

The name Mushara comes from the purple-pod terminalia trees that grow around the lodge. Décor mixes contemporary pieces, traditional African art and older paintings without making the shared spaces feel formal. Couples, families and small groups can choose among several room layouts.

Rooms at this eastern Etosha lodge

Accommodation comprises ten spacious double chalets, one triple room and one family house. The family house sleeps four guests in two separate bedrooms—one double and one twin—each with its own en-suite bathroom. The complete property accommodates up to 27 guests under the current configuration.

Rooms are air-conditioned and include mosquito nets, a minibar, safe, tea and coffee station, charging sockets and a telephone. Chalets have en-suite showers, while the triple room and family house include both a shower and bath. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and common areas, although speed can vary in a rural location.

Facilities at Mushara accommodation

Ten thatched chalets are arranged around a large swimming pool and landscaped garden. The main building includes an airy lounge, fireplace, bar, wine cellar, small library, dining area and curio shop. The pool and shaded lawn are useful for resting during the warmer hours between park visits.

Meals at Mushara Lodge

The kitchen uses vegetables, herbs and fruit from the property’s garden when available. Dinner, bed and breakfast is the standard accommodation basis, with lunch and packed lunches available separately. Share allergies and dietary preferences before travel, and confirm the meal plan shown on your quotation.

Game drives from a lodge near Namutoni Gate

Guests can join scheduled or private guided drives into Etosha. Vehicles have elevated seating and guides use local knowledge and current information to plan routes, while respecting park rules. Independent travellers can also self-drive through the nearby gate and choose their own waterhole stops.

Morning and afternoon departures vary with gate times and season. Wildlife is free-ranging, so no encounter can be promised. Binoculars, sun protection and a warm layer for early drives improve comfort, and a packed lunch can help on a longer park day.

Planning a stay at Mushara Lodge

Children are welcome. Children up to three years generally stay free, while guests aged four and older use the applicable normal rate under the current policy. Families should reserve the family house or triple room early, especially during school holidays and the dry-season peak.

Who this eastern Etosha lodge suits
