Kalahari Game Lodge is a beautiful destination that offers eight luxury chalets with stunning views of the surrounding area. For those who prefer a more adventurous experience, there are six secluded campsites situated along the dry Auob riverbed, providing ample space between each site.
The lodge is located on the banks of the Auob river, which is typically dry, but during rare wet seasons, short grasses grow in the riverbed, attracting grazing antelope and creating an ideal game-viewing experience.
The landscape at Kalahari Game Lodge is mainly comprised of typical Kalahari red dunes with patches of grass, dotted with natural salt pans and temporary pools that collect on the sandy plains during the rainy season, creating pop-up drinking holes.
The Kalahari Game Lodge is home to around 55 mammal species, including pygmy mice, springbok, gemsbok, eland, giraffe, and brown hyena.
There are approximately 185 bird species, including migratory species that populate the area during the summer months from November to April. Birdwatchers will enjoy sightings of white-backed vultures, lapped-faced vultures, martial eagles, pygmy falcon, ant-eating chats, and northern black korhaan.
Kalahari Game Lodge is also home to around 58 different reptile species that can be seen around the grounds.
The lodge was previously used for farming sheep and cattle, and as a result, the livestock fences had to be removed before wildlife could be reintroduced. Restoration projects were initiated to restore the natural grassland to its original state and reintroduce the wildlife that naturally occurred in the area. The goal is to restore the Kalahari eco-system that was largely destroyed by farming and to create a conservation area.
The lodge is also home to a number of endangered species that roam the dunes, such as the brown hyena, pangolin, African hedgehog, and the striped polecat. Seeing these creatures in their natural habitat is a truly unforgettable experience.
Luxury Chalets
The lodge consists of eight luxurious chalets, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, air conditioning units, and mosquito nets. Additionally, each chalet features a small kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities, a washbasin, a small fridge, and a seating area. Guests can also enjoy a private patio with splendid views of the serene surroundings. The lodge offers various facilities such as a restaurant, a bar, a swimming pool, and a bonfire pit for guests to enjoy.
Campsites
For more adventurous visitors, the lodge also provides six exclusive campsites situated in the picturesque Auob riverbed. These campsites are spread out and located approximately 100 meters apart. Each campsite is equipped with private ablution facilities, and solar power provides lighting. However, it is advisable to bring additional lighting. The water heating system at the campsites is a wood-fired donkey boiler. Housekeeping attends to each campsite daily.
Each of the campsites can comfortably accommodate up to four people. However, larger groups traveling together can be accommodated in multiple campsites located next to each other. Please note that there are no electricity outlets available at the campsites. Guests can charge their fridges and other equipment at the main lodge area. Please enquire at reception for more details.
