Overview of Kalahari Farmhouse

Kalahari Farmhouse is located in Stampriet, within Namibia's Kalahari region, about 53 kilometers northeast of Mariental. This property offers a garden-like setting that contrasts with the surrounding desert, thanks to artesian water sources that keep the area green. It's part of the Gondwana Collection and serves as a stopover for travelers heading between Windhoek and southern Namibia, or toward the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park or South Africa.

The farmhouse style emphasizes a peaceful atmosphere, with chalets overlooking gardens filled with palm trees, birds, and small streams. Visitors can explore the adjacent Self Sufficiency Centre, where produce and meats are prepared for various Gondwana lodges.

The accommodation suits individuals, couples, families, and campers, with a focus on comfort in a rural environment. It's accessible by regular vehicles and provides a base for relaxation or short excursions. While no guided activities are available on-site, guests can arrange their own transport to participate in options at the nearby Kalahari Anib Lodge, 30 kilometers away.

Location and Accessibility

Positioned at GPS coordinates S 24° 20.256 E 18° 24.054, the farmhouse is on the outskirts of Stampriet, benefiting from natural underground water that supports its gardens and operations. It's roughly 260 kilometers south of Windhoek, making it a logical midpoint for road trips.

The area features Kalahari landscapes with red sands nearby, but the property itself is more oasis-like due to the water supply. Access is straightforward on tarred roads, and the site is partially accessible for guests with restricted mobility, including secure parking. Transfers can be organized separately if needed.

The property includes 11 bungalows and eight campsites, designed for a cozy stay with farmhouse charm.

Activities and Experiences

No formal activities are hosted directly at Kalahari Farmhouse, but guests are encouraged to visit the Self Sufficiency Centre next door. This includes viewing seasonal vegetable gardens, dairy operations with cows for milking, and production areas for salamis, sausages, biltong, chickens, and pigs. It's a self-guided look at sustainable farming in the desert.

For more structured options, drive 30 kilometers to Kalahari Anib Lodge (own transport required). There, activities include:

  • Bushmen Wisdom Experience: A guided morning walk (2-3 hours) learning about tracking, plants, and culture, with refreshments.
  • Sundowner Drive: An afternoon vehicle tour (3 hours) to dunes, with snacks.
  • Dune Walk: Guided morning foot exploration (2 hours), with refreshments.
  • Desert Night Walk: Short post-dinner stroll (45 minutes) spotting nocturnal life with UV light.

Child Policy and Reservations

Families are accommodated, with a policy that supports younger visitors:

  • Children up to 5 years: Free of charge.
  • Ages 6-13: 50% of the bed and breakfast rate.

The family rooms, pool, and nearby activities make it family-oriented.

In summary, Kalahari Farmhouse provides a tranquil spot to experience a greener side of the Kalahari, with comfortable lodgings and access to fresh, local production. It's well-suited for relaxed stays or as part of a broader itinerary, allowing time to unwind in the gardens or explore nearby desert features.
