Share Etosha King Nehale
Etosha King Nehale is positioned on the Andoni Plains, 1 kilometer north of Etosha National Park's King Nehale Gate on the northwestern side. This lodge is situated in the King Nehale Conservancy and serves as a convenient stop after a day of game viewing in Etosha or during travels to northern Namibia.
Designed by Sven-Eric Staby, the layout resembles the head of Nguni cattle, with bungalows radiating from the central area like horns. The property pays homage to the region's cultural heritage through Oshiwambo-inspired ornaments in the spacious chalets.
Each unit overlooks the plains, emphasizing sunrises, sunsets, and moon phases for a sense of endless space and horizons. A standout feature is the private access to the secluded Ontalelo Outpost waterhole inside Etosha National Park, reserved exclusively for lodge guests, with an enclosed hide for viewing wildlife.
The lodge combines the cultural vibrancy of Owamboland—surrounded by communal areas in the Oshikoto, Oshana, Ohangwena, and Omusati Regions—with the natural wonders of Etosha's less-visited northern section.
The area features vast open landscapes, artesian springs, and woodlands, providing opportunities to observe wildlife and engage with local traditions. It's accessible by standard vehicles, making it a practical base for exploring the park without the crowds of southern entrances.
The lodge caters to couples and families, with partial accessibility for restricted mobility, and focuses on a balanced experience of relaxation and discovery in Namibia's iconic savannah.
At GPS coordinates -18.469694°, 16.708528°, the lodge is just outside Etosha's northern boundary, allowing quick entry through the King Nehale Gate for game drives. It's an easy overnight spot en route from Windhoek or other northern areas, with the Andoni Plains offering spectacular views of open grasslands.
Access is via tarred and gravel roads, suitable for sedan cars, with secure parking available. The property is accessible for persons with restricted mobility. Transfers are available in closed 9-seater vehicles (one way): to/from Ondangwa (102km) at N$ 1980 per vehicle, Mokuti (58km) at N$ 1035, Mushara (65km) at N$ 1145, and Okaukuejo (177km) at N$ 3140. Transport options include Go2 Tourism Shuttle or Namibia2Go Car Rental for self-drive.
The lodge has 40 bungalows, each with its own plunge pool and views over the Andoni Plains.
All bungalows are decorated with cultural elements, ensuring comfort in the savannah setting.
